My first time out and this is what they had us do!!! It was awesome. If any of you are in the Austin/San Antonio area and would like to try this, Ben at the Outdoor Olympic Center in San Marcos is a great instructor. Contact me and I'll get you in touch with him.

I've always loved the San Marcos River. It's so clean and cold, but surprising how gnarly the banks are downstream. I camped with some of my sons at Palmetto S.P. a few years ago, and they said it floods a couple of times a year, which explains all the uprooted trees and stuff.
That's a great picture. Was that by the Joe's Crab Shack? I guess it's a good way to get folks past their fear of waterfalls! Instead of sink or swim I guess it's fall or sink.

Gordon,
It's actually further down stream. There is a canal that drops down into the main river. We paddle up to the bottom and then climb up next to the falls and hoist our boats up. There is a little area at the top where we drop the boats in and then push ourselves over the falls. It's lots of fun, and really safe since it's just flat water at the bottom.
